It's in the open world where Hogwarts Legacy shows its weaknesses. The Scottish Highlands surrounding Hogwarts are beautiful but lack the density and variety of the castle itself. Hamlets feel copy-pasted, enemy camps become repetitive, and the collectible-heavy open world checklist design clashes with the game's otherwise immersive atmosphere.
The main story, while serviceable, takes too long to develop its central mystery and relies on twists that experienced RPG players will see coming. Side quests are a mixed bag — companion quests are generally well-written and memorable, while generic side activities often devolve into formulaic fetch-and-fight structures.
